I received my new Maddog recurve tonight.  All I could think about today was getting a couple shots before it got dark, however, I seem to have misplaced my stringer and out of fear of twisting a limb couldn't bring myself to try the step through.  Will post pics as soon as I can get some in daylight.  Curly maple riser with cocobola accent strip and overlays, black limbs veneers.  55# @ 28.  I have to win geek of the day for this.

I have 4 stringers, one in each of mine and my wife's bow cases and one in each of our back packs, I can always find a stringer at home! Good on you for waiting though, but buy some more stringers for pete's sake!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

In a pinch you can use or make something padded that is stationary to press the bow like a compound press. If you are the one that is pressing the bow you need to get someone to put string on the tip though unless you have a low poundage bow.

Stringer?  Who needs a stringer??  I've been stepping through a wide variety of bow for nearly 60 years and have never twisted anything.  Only bow I'd use a stringer on is a completely relaxed and reflexed C shaped Persian hornbow!

I'm not a recurve guy so I was wondering if recurves of today have limb twist problem potential?  I remember the "good ol days" and issues with wide flat thin limbs on recurves taking a twist now and then but I'm guessing designs have changed and that's not so much an issue anymore. Right or wrong?

Heres a cool trick to prevent this.

leave the stringer on each bow. When im done shooting and i unstring a bow I leave the bottom cup on the lower limb and wrap the top cup around the bow a couple times then put the top cup on the top limb. its like a string keeper and stringer all in one and always with the bow.
for recurve stringers with the rubber pad on top just wrap it a few times then twist the rubber pad under.
Every bow we have has ist own stringer with the bow all the time.

Why not just make some?  I have never owned a commercial stringer.  This is exactly what I do.

You can make all of them you want for under $10.

except I use smaller string(heavy tarred twine)

You mean you took the time to tell on yourself when you could have been taking pictures  :)

I was checking out Maddog's site yesterday. Man they have some fine bows at great prices. I need to get with him and get my 10 year son one of those Pups.

Initially I figured if I can't enjoy it then nobody should. LOL.  Seriously, every picture I take indoors sucks so I wanted to wait to get it outside, I promise they're coming.

Homebru

I've got a stringer you can borrow.

I like the idea of the one in the video but I'm not sure I trust that 1/4" rope in my string grooves.
