I recently acquired a groves spitfire at a yard sale and I was wondering if I can use a standard string from three rivers even though it has those tiny nock tips. It will only be an occasional backyard shooter. At my draw length I can't hunt with it but if I like it enough I'll get a better one but my hunting bows get most of my attention. Thanks

Just don't use anything but B 50 for a string. It won't handle the newer "fast flite" stuff. Shot Groves bows most of my life and you really need to use old time strings.

The actual string length for a Groves is shorter than the AMO. Example, if I bought an AMO 56" Dacron for my 56" Spitfire, it would be too long.

I have my friend build me my Groves strings from one of the originals I wore out.

I'll definitely be using b50. I'm mainly concerned about the size of the loops. It's a 69" prestige deluxe . Anyone have an idea on the string length for it. I've bought strings from a sponsor here before so I don't have a problem with it, its just that I'm about to place a large order with 3rivers and I was hoping just to get it all from one place. Thanks

Steven,  I shoot a couple of the tiny tip 69" spitfires and just make them "standard"  If you try to go to a smaller loop for the small tips you won't be able to slide the string down over the limb when unstringing.  Never had a problem using stock size loops.  Enjoy your new toy,  they are GREAT shooters

Bill Carlsen

Groves limbs are on the wide side so a normal string will be an easier fit when it is unstrung. All the years that I shot those bows I never worried about loop size so long as the top loop was big enough to slide down the upper limb.

Awesome I appreciate it. Just never had one that looked like that. Looking forward to shooting it.
