About 14 yrs ago when Lori and I moved out here I built a stone wall around a Maple in the back yard.

I planted about a 1/2 dz different types of Ivy around it and over the years it filled in really nice and has started climbing the Maple.

 This winter has been brutal temp. wise,not to mention with snow on the ground pretty much all of January.

 There has been a lot of activity around the Maple this month...

They seem to have taken a liking to the Ivy...

They have taken it about as far as they can.

Our winter is really adding up here in Northern MI.  Lot's of snow and well below normal temps.  Our only thaw lasted for two days and then back to winter again.  I believe we're going to see some serious winter loss if this keeps up.

Craig the deer started in earnest in late November. I have never seen the amount of feeding like this year. Not surprising....no food. They walk around here with toothpicks in their mouth.

Craig, WOW! can you imagine when they really get stressed in March? We have had a VERY cold winter in CNY and snow covering ground for quite some time. I expect in March they will be climbing the trees. Can't wait til spring and I promise I will make some of your great shoots in PA.

Killdeer

That's English Ivy. The deer are doing your tree a favor.

Killdeer   :thumbsup:
Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

No worries Craig.  Ivy Is super prolific.  Soon it will be back to full tilt and soon your tree will be on tilt.

I've been ripping it off my house for 5 years and have tried every year to kill it to no avail.
Relax,

You'll live longer!
