We in the South Carolina Bowhunters Association are thinking about having a day of making kids rattan bows. I have been watching Mr. Torges DVD and would like to know if anyone knows what type of rattan he used in the DVD. Also a source where the SCBA can purchase some. Also does anyone have any experiance with doing this and what kind of turnout can we expect? Thanks The bows and event will be free to the public.

I can't answer any of these questions but I will be watching so that I can teach the scouts.

John looked under the articles, Dean link to Bamboo supply place doesn't give me the type of rattan we need.

I have one, made by Dane Snodgrass I will be happy to send you for some child that could use one...its in the twenty something pound range, and would be great for a starter bow.

ONE SHOT

Do A Google search at Bamboo and Rattan Works, the Company is back East. The prices are very reasonable you should be able to get four bows easy from one piece of Rattan. If My memory is correct seems like the price for a piece of Rattan was around $25.00. When You divide by 4 each Bows cost=$6.25.

The shipping cost might be a little on the high price side thou, do to the extra long length.

Better yet give Dean Torges an E-Mail, Iam sure that He will be more than willing to help you, He has been very generous in answering Questions for Me when I asked....ONE SHOT...  :)    :)   :)

Hey all,

Let me know how this works out.  Would love to do this sort of thing with the scouts.  Baring that I might even drive down from Winston Salem NC to attend your bow making with the Son.
