I have an Asbell pull over wool shirt. I would like to get something that is windproof to wear under it. what have you used?

Doc Nock

They used to sell a windproof pull over for underneath...

Check with them...

Look for one of the windproof golf shirts at thrift stores.

golf wind shirts are great and can be inexpensive.  Most are bright colors but if underneath an outer layer so what !

Just my opinion, but I find that buying a garment with a sewed in wind proof lining is quieter than just getting a golf pullover as an underpayment.  They work but I find they are more noisy.  Just something to think about.  I would look at the Asbell pullover windblock vest

I checked the asbell site but did not see a windproof vest, I will look again

If you are looking for warmth I would recommand you use a windproof jacket to go over the wool. From my experience your windproof layer needs to be your outer layer, with insulating layers under.
I would recommand a light weight rain jacket, these are usually windproof as well

Jim,

You got me curious so I checked too...and I can no longer find the windproof pull over on their site, either. I believe it used to be at the bottom of the wool pullovers.

Whip had one I saw him wear.

One thing about most windproof garments...they're often made with nylon and are noisy when cold. but under a heavy wool top, not as big an issue. Some are made softer, but more bulk.

Second thing I noticed, is they are very WARM if you're moving.

Cabella's had FLEECE style windproof garment, but it is bulky and the wool pull over is hard enough to get off...with a fleece garment under... being the wool is unlined, it can be like a snake shedding skin!

Choose wisely.  I have 2 nylon ones a local construction outfit gave away as promos. they work.  The golf attire might be the ticket!

There needs to be a balance between wind proof and breathable. A canvas anorak over a wool sweater is very warm, a nylon anorak that is as wind proof as a rubber rain suits is a sauna. I agree that the wind proofing is much warmer if it is outside the warmer garment. My wool Swanee jacket is fairly wind proof after I got a super lanolin treatment done to it, but I smell so much like a sheep that I have become terrified of the occasional visiting mountain lion that left big kitty tracks last year right where I hunt.

I believe Teresa used up the last of her windblocker fabric last year......it was pretty expensive, not sure if she is ordering more.

Go to a good camping store like REI and try on different brands of wind proof fleece.  You will find that some are real quiet.  Nylon under anything is noisy for me.  I find that wearing it under wool is still just as warm as over wool.  The last thing you want is that little bit of noise just as you start to draw your bow on a close critter.  If you can hear it, you Know the animal can hear it louder!

Jim,
I use 1 of the wind shirts (golf shirts?) under my Asbell vest.  Both are under a predator fleece coat, or lighter fleece jacket,  so noise has never been an issue.
Combo works great.....I carry my mid-outer layers w/me in backpack so getting too warm isn't usually an issue.

ASBEL WIND CUTTER VEST...

I have one. I like it.
I don't see it on their site now either.
I'd call or email them to see if they may still make it and forgot to add it to their updated site...
