Looks like it ain't gonna happen for me again this year.  :knothead:

Opened my big mouth and took on too many furniture builds for Christmas presents.  :banghead:

I had hoped I would be far enough along to break free for a couple days, but as usual there always seems to be certain things you can't rush.

Retirement ain't what it's cracked up to be.

Looking like I may only get to stop by and visit, due to work related things.....even though I'm supposed to be on vacation. I'll try and swing by Saturday afternoon and say hi. I look forward to seeing everyone.

Any updates for us poor folks that couldn't make it?   :archer:

I talked to Darren Shue on friday evening as he drove to the hunt. He encouraged me to call in sick and join you guys. Not long after that he told me to make sure my "Bighorn" recurve that he covets was willed to him. My "Spidey" senses went off and I decided work might be a safer bet for me. Good luck and have fun.

Just got unpacked a little bit ago.  We had a great hunt and saw more deer than ever.  The later hunt and cold weather sure helped.  I mmmisssed twice on Friday night.  One at a 2 year old 6 and once at a doe.  I have no excuses other than I suck.

I went back to the same spot last night and got busted by a doe at 5 yards just as I was drawing on her.  The next one walked the same way which allowed me to plan my draw better and when she popped out from behind a tree, I took my shot.  A short blood trail led to this doe.

I shot her with my Tradgang Bowyer's Bench swap bow from last year.  It was made by Jess Stuart and is 47# at 27".  I was shooting GT carbon blems with 190 Ribteks up front.  My brother and our friend Dave checked her in online and then boned her out to save us a tough drag over the knobs.

We also had some great times in camp.  I think this is all the folks that came:

John and Mike Scifres (Indy)

Dave Cleary (Indy)

Brent "Burnt" Wakeland (Greenfield)

"Billy" Kellums (Kokomo)

Kris "Stiks-n-Strings" McDonald (Petersburg via Montana)

Darren "Hackbow" Shue (St. Louis, MO)

Steve Russell (Moscow, ID)

Roland "tecum-tha" Scheeff d his friend Steve

John "americnhunter7" Reichenbacker

John Herron

John "laxbowman" Shue

Let me know if I forgot anyone. I have some more pics but they'll have to wait.  Thanks to everyone for making this a great hunt!

Congrats John...

One of these days I'll get back... I'd fully planned on being there and I was scheduled to speak at church this weekend... had a band concert moved to Friday night and a Seniors seminar at church on Saturday...

Seems like that always happens to me the weekend you plan...

Good people and great times!

Congrats John!  I'm happy to hear that you had a second (or third, or fourth) chance.    :)   Wish I could have been there for it.

It was a fun way to end a business trip and I really enjoyed getting to visit with old friends and make new ones as well.  What a great group of people.  The only downside to the whole thing was I felt sorry for the people had to sit next to  me in the plane.    :)   After two days in camp, I smelled strongly of campfire and even though I washed up at the airport and changed clothes, I'm sure that it was noticeable.  It was worth it though.

It was a good time, like always, when is it not pouring rain. My friend Steve also enjoyed the camp and the good times around the fire. Weather was very nice for this time of year and the hunting was good, too.

Great to see everyone again and meet a couple new ones. This trip was more fun than should be allowed by law. Happy for John that he had enough arrows to finish the job and always grateful for the outfitting. Pretty sure this was best campfire story time ever. At least the funniest. The fact that we found time to hunt and as a group saw more deer than ever amazes me.

And really burnt...longer? I need the recovery time.
