will be making my arrows and would like to know if making helical feathers is it better 4 inches or 5 inches

asking because I think the 5 inches will wrap to much around the shaft

does it matter or not..... would prefer 5 inches

Charlie Lamb

The amount of helical is adjustable on most fletching jigs. I don't think it will matter as long as you have contact with the shaft along the entire length of the rib.

I'm actually shoot 4-3in high sheild feathers with as much helical as my Bitz will allow with no problem and man they shoot sweet!  Use to fletch 4in with same or similar setting and could do 5in with no problem as well.
They'll be no quitters till we bag us some critters!

thanks
that is what I have a bits

I see a lot use 4 feathers
they say you don't search for cock feather this way

any other advantage.....

I like to use 4" as a 4 fletch and 5" with 3 fletch you can put a good amount of helical on this way, I am sure that the 4" could be used with 3 fletch too, I just like the way they look and they fly great.
