Intro: me and my bow

Hi all, I had been practising archery untill 30 years ago, then stopped mostly cause of time (working as journalist and editor in chiesf in a newspaper, 14 hours a day). Now I am retired and I  would like to go back to archery. Still own amy thrusty Bear TD B type magnesium riser, with 45 White Knight 1*#45 libs and Black Tip 3#50 lb arms, from 1978 that I am in the mood of restoring. In some places metal is flourished but I have yet paint strippit it and primed with and alu specific paint, will now finish it with a good bicomponent paint.  If anyone have any suggestion or caveat about this process I would greately appreciate. I would like too buing some spare parts, as the rest and the latching items, and possibly new limbs 55 or 60 lb. I am confident I can drow them becasue I am still trained in pool and M.A. and I have been frequentlu poaching (yes not fully legal here, but fun))with strong.... catapults. Well this is all.

Hey Stelug

Welcome to T/G and thanks for writing.  Your old bow looks gorgeous - especially the shape in those beautiful limbs.  I have just bought (for the second time), and Pittsley Predator and the limbs (especially the wedges), look a lot like your old limbs.  I Don't know much about the history, but I think one of the Pittsley boys used to work for Bear (hence the similarity).

Wow - you are a poacher!!  Fantastic stuff.  Just watch they don't take you out to the town square at midday, and stone you - LOL.

Make sure you keep us updated with photos, when the bow is finished.

I don't have any experience with that type of bow, but it's an interesting post.  Have you ever heard a Texan speak English? LOL   You're fine.  Nice bow, good luck with the restoration.

Ciao Danny, Your's italian is way better than my english. And about poaching hai fatto centro. But laws and traditions are way different here and a good an fast catapult can be fun for hunting vermints and pest, else if not fully legal, may be.
Ps I mailed member Inrut (Mr Monte Dunaway I believe) for the spares I would like to buy. He seems to be "The Autority" on old Bear's Bows, am I correct? are there other members I can ask?

Aw, I see, nothing wrong with getting rid of pests and varmits.

There is another member who might be able to help you his trad gang handle is vintage-bears( Philip Leone), he is a good authority on old Bear bows so you might contact him also. You might also contact mi amico cacciatore(Felix Dazza) who lives in Italy.

stripped an repainted yet, after appling two hands of a good alu primer. Took 5 layers of a rather difficoult, and costly, epoxy matt black-green paint,to achieve this resoult, but it appear good to me. I wuld'not go for an over layer of transparent cover because the epoxy, bicomponent paint, should be very though by his own, and also cause the original finishing was without it. But I am open to any advice?
