Backpack, or fanny pack?

I'm a fanny pack guy myself, but I cannot seem to find just the right fanny pack for bowhunting.  I've had several over the years, and just haven't been satisfied.  I don't want something that's bulky and large, however I need something with enough storage and compartments.  What brand and type do you guys recommend?

I use the Cat VI Fanny Pack with the Cat Quiver and like it alot. It's well thought out and designed for bow hunting. I'm going to try a Skookum single arrow bow quiver along with the Cat this year.

There's another thread currently on this topic, look for it. I like my fieldline fannypack with the removable shoulder harness.  No harness for 1/2 day hunt in my stand.  I use the harness for all day hunts, including my Torges treeseat.  Only if I need a lot of stuff including food or hunting with my daughter, will I break out my medium sized Remington Daypack.

After one to many run-ins between my bowstring and my backpack shoulder strap, I am ready to try a fanny pack.  I got some good suggestions in this thread.

Both, depends upon what I'm hunting and where.  I like the Badlands product line and own the 1100 cu inch Monster Fanny, the 2200 cu inch internal frame Day pack and the 4500 cu inch full size internal frame pack.  You'll note that each back is twice the cubic inches as the one before.  Seams about just right to me.

I have both, back & fanny packs made by Crooked Horn Outfitters.  The fanny pack has a shoulder strap support system and converts into a day pack of more room is needed.  I use this pack for virtually all my bowhunting around the farmstead.

The back pack gets used primarily during rifle season (I seem to have to carry more stuff when rifle hunting, for whatever reason), and when I'm hunting wilder places like the Badlands...

i am now using a Bison Gear. i have tried several other brands but none compare to the durability and quality of the Bison Gear. the badlands pack i used for a few years was torn while in texas on a hog hunt. the other thing i didn't like about the badlands was the material would get really lound when the temps dipped near freezing.  

the Bison Gear packs & fanny packs are more expensive, but i won't need to buy another one so in the long run i will probably save money.

I'm with paleface; I tried the Badlands pack also...the Bison Gear has just really worked well for me. Their customer service is also exceptional.

I've used a Nimrod pack for several years. It's well made and offers lot's of options - different bags, belt attachments, etc.  They supply the wildland firefighters with packs so the quality is good along with the customer service.  Bison Gear is nearly the same and is also a good brand.  

While I think brands like Badlands and Eberlestock are great, they are IMO overbuilt and therefore a little heavy.  Some of their day packs weigh as much as 4-5 lbs. empty!

Lot's of good gear out there.  The best option would be to try out as much as you can, then decide.

I just got a Gameplangear Spot'n'stalk that I hope works out well. I looked for months and could not find either a fanny or a back pack that would work for how I hunt.

Both. I wear my Dwight Schuh hunting pack like a t-shirt. But you can "make your own" for a lot less.

Thanks guys, some really good suggestions.  I've been thinking about Badlands and Bisongear for some time.  Within the next 6 months, we have a Cabelas and a Bass Pro that are scheduled to open in LA.  Hopefully, they will carry some of this gear so I can check it out.
