Our deer season is over and it seems to get harder to accept every year.  Another great season and some late season hunting produced some close encounters to tide me over till next year.  Even though there is lots of archery stuff to do, it's not the same as a strung bow with a broadheaded arrow on the string waiting for whitetail....never ever gets old...Can't believe it's over.

Gene .. I'm in the same mood ... it was a great year for me as well .. took a few does but never did get the one I was after .. however had him 18 yds away last thursday! So this fall .. that sounds like it's closer that way .. This fall maybe I'll get a chance at him.

I'm with you guys, too.  Seems the older I get, the faster time flies.  I had hoped that this  year would be my year to get one again but it was not to be.  I did not see one deer while on bow stand this year...Not 1.  Very disgusting to say the least.  Had a young man and his family move in behind me last year and he (along with his 5 pit bulls) have utterly destroyed my hunting.  Nothing I can do but hope he decides to move someday.  In the mean time, I'll just keep try'in.

God speed to all.  Better luck this year.

I have 11 days left to take a deer. I have been out 16 times and have deer within shoot range 13 times but, due to position of deer or other deer looking at me or brush in the way I have been unable to get it done. It has bee agreat season so far but at the end  the prozac will be ordered lol. I try to look on the bright side, hunting season is only 8 months away!

I got this weekend to go. But the late season has been slow for me. I have lost the pattern and my early stands are cold.

But I will be out there both mornings this weekend, just to watch the sun rise and listen to the woods wake-up.

Our regular bow season is nearly over.  After the season is up I'll do some reflection and see what I need to change for next year.  Like the rest of us I really miss sitting in a tree or blind waiting for a deer to come.  I'll be looking forward to turkey season this year since I think I found a couple areas where birds will be.

Ours ended Saturday. I've been up early in the woods every Saturday since September (squirrel hunting) and 2 weeks of vacation since. I'm ready to sleep in this Saturday. I passed on shot on great buck that was a couple of yards outside my comfort zone. I never saw him again.

This off season I'm working on adding a few yards to my comfort zone for next time.

Still have 10 days or so here. I've been blessed with a great season and will be sad to see it go,but am almost getting burned out on deer.  This morning I was wishing for a quiver full of blunts to harass squirrels with.  But squirrel stays in well after deer goes out so I'm going to stay after the deer til the end.

Ours ended last Sunday and I'm feeling the same way. Had a great season though. 4 deer with 4 shots and saw deer most every time out. My last sit on Sunday I had 3 does and a little button buck under me as the sun set and the light faded. Thought that was a good way to end the season.

Still a spring gobbler hunt and have pigs all year and TBOF shoots and I'm bring Rod Jenkins back again this year so it will be a busy spring and summer.

I know the feeling too that it is over, but I am already planning and buying end of year clothing and etc. in anticipation for next season.  And like some said "its only 9 months away".

By the time ours is over I'm ready to move on. Groudhog hunting, 3-D shooting every weekend from now until Sept, stump shooting, bass and flounder fishing, camping, golf. In fact I have moved on. Shot 3-D last Sunday and will shoot this Sunday.

Gene,

Agree with all the feelings expressed above.  There is a WTA Trad Shoot this weekend in Wausau (Brokaw) WI at Rib Mountain Bowmen for all of us looking to commiserate about the season's end and to have a few laughs and actually shoot our bows at something   :)    The WTA Annual Banquet is February 16th where Nathan Andersohn is the Keynote.  Also look forward to some rabbit hunting with our longbows in January & February ...don't have to descent for that and can actually fraternize during the hunt; can be lots of fun, for sure!  Have some selfbow & backed-bow projects I would like to complete in addition to some wood arrow combinations that need finalization.  Also, always looking forward to the first spring Trad. Shoots and exercising those winter atrophied back, shoulder and arm muscles.  The flattened brown grass of March is always a welcome sight for stump shooting as well.  When kids get a bit older, I imagine we'll take Florida & Arizona trips and try to incorporate hog and Javy hunting into those, this time of the year.

Always something to be excited about!

Kris
