anybody know anything about doing D.I.Y. hunts in Cuba.
i know they offer a lot of bird shooting. but what is the deal on the feral goats and pigs etc.
thanks

cuboodle

I spent a year in GTMO covered every square inch only game I saw was iguanas and hutia large rat like critters. A few pythons the terrain is nasty thorn bush and needle cactus I was never across the fence and minefields so I'm not sure what the rest of Cuba has to offer

Izzy

I have heard of feral cattle in the DR and as Cuba is close they may be there as well. It would be an interesting hunt for sure. Iguanas and hutias sound at least as fun as any small game.

i did some looking, and there are a few lodges that offer dove shooting etc, apparently some world class bird shooting!!
and did see mention of pigs, goats and wild cattle- but not any mention of how they are hunted. oh well- will keep looking- will let you guys know if i find anything!!
my wife wants to go there for a holiday- she can do the beach thing, and i will hunt.

You might want to look into Mona Island off Puerto Rico.  Looks to be a tough hunt but easier logistics than Cuba.

I was at GITMO in 93 and they have tiny whitetail deer which I guess are the same as Key deer in FLA. A nice mature 8 point weighed about 75 lbs. Minefield maintenance would shoot them when out replacing mine sets as a few deer running through setting off bouncing bettys while your working can really screw up your day........
Bowhunting is "KILL and EAT" not "Catch and Release".....Semper Fi!

there's always Isla Mona, 50 miles off Puerto Rico. Pigs and goats. If you can survive it. :-) - Jay  www.campbellsquest.com
The how and why of hunting is more important than the what, or the where, or with whom. In hunting - as in life - the joy is in the journey.

From the size of the iguanas I saw while at GITMO in the late 80's, you better shoot heavy tackle.
Fishing is great but I don't know about bowfishing. My pastor is going back in a few months for a second missions trip. I may be in on the next one. It is a beautiful place, but very poor. The people are very nice as well.

Fujimo is at it again,  that feller is always cooking up another place to hunt!  Did you consider Hawaii?  Not as cheap as Cuba but nice and warm and with goats and pigs!  I'm seriously thinking about it, I'm sure I can talk the misses into a mid winter trip....next year.

you were reading my mind chef! wife and kids on the beach and me hunting sounds like hawaii to me.

Mike Vines did the Hawaii trip last winter. Serch it out,he did a nice write-up for us.

Also as a side note-PBS will be airing a show soon called "Cuba- The Accidental Eden"

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/cuba-the-accidental-eden/introduction/5728/

It will show on "Nature"  It looks like it will be a really nice program.

The Ozzie, the S'African and the Canuck --the pigs wouldn't stand a chance    :archer:

The girls would have a blast, some snorkelling, some beer for the boys and some fruity drinks for the gals....

It seems like that would be a great destination for a group hunt    :campfire:
