Have a great northern fireball. I'm pulling 53 at 28. Would really like to keep a 250 grain head and 100 grain insert in my carbon shaft. I've been shooting 400 gold tip . My arrows hit at an angle with the nock to my right. Any suggestions on what spine shaft I should try?

Rule of thumb for EFOC that I know is that for each 25gn over100gn tip you need to factor in 3# added draw weight on the arrow shaft. Having said that I shoot 250 gn tips OK on both 400 & 500 spine GTs at 47# &23%FOC - M

My arrow seems to straiten out well by 10 or 12 yards but closer and point blank ranges it is giving trouble. Arrow swings out about 1.5 to 2 feet. This same extreme foc set up flys like a dart out of my 56@28 thunder child! I'm wondering if my fireball being cut 3/16 past center has something to do with the trouble

I would say you need 75/95's with that much weight up front. I shoot 50# at my DL and use 32" 55/75's with 250gr up front.

Your draw length would come into play in the decision too. If shorter than 28" then you are pulling less than 53# and if longer than 28" then you are pulling more than 53#.

I like the smaller dia. arrows better they are more forgiving due to them being closer to the center of the bow. Like the beaman MFX's

How long are your arows now? Can you cut some off the rear end? a half an inch will stiffen them up a great deal. LCH

My shafts 29 1/2 and my draw is 28 so I could cut 1/2 ". Any ideas on what I could cut them with?

Nock right for a right handed shooter normally shows the arrow is too stiff. Nock left would be weak.  You could build the plate out with a toothpick or something to verify before cutting.  I'm betting though that it is too stiff.  I would try 35/55 if you are drawing 28" or so.  I shoot 29" Carbon Express Thunderstorms with 300 up front with longbows 55-60 pounds at my 27" draw. Center cut of my bows range from past center to before center. CE Thunderstorms spine in the .500 range as do the Goldtip 35/55.  Start tuning at full length and cut down as you tune.
