Bow Sting Making Help

I am just leaning on how to make a bow string.
My question is I just got a long bow and the string that came with it does not have very many twists in it, so my question is how tight should the twists be??? Not sure if I am asking the right way all help is appreciated
I am not talking about the ends, just the twists going after that, I am using 15 strands of Fast Flight Plus.

Too many twists is more of a problem.  I doubt you can have too few.

too few and the string slips and comes apart...........very bad........I like around 3 twists per inch on mine.......

Yep , I like about 3 per inch as well, though i'm not bothered by 2 per inch.  One per inch is about ready to start coming apart.  Don't like 4 per inch very much.  Tends to stretch pretty much with dacron, not as much with fast flite.

How is that measured? say a 50in string x 3 twists per inch or string =150 twists for the length of the string?  Burt

take a ruler,lay it next to string,count how many times the same strand/bundle lines up........2 or 3 color strings make it easy..........

The twists only matter if it is a flemish string.  The twists don't hold an endless together.

All Bowstrings need twists, endless should have at least 2 per inch,, its what keeps it together and stronger keeps dirt& wax in better

They still matter.  Granted, an endless loop string won't come apart if there are no twists in it.  However, a few twists are usually still a good idea to spread out the tension in the string across all the strands.  Otherwise, if one or a few of the strands aren't the same tension as the others, entirely possible if the string maker isn't careful, they do all the work.  And, too many twists in an endless loop string will also contribute to excessive stretching/elongation while the bow is strung.  In short, it won't hold its brace height. Rather, the brace height will inordinately decrease over time if the bow is left strung.

Oh well, shows what I know.  Though I'd swear I've twisted-up strings that ended-up so short they didn't have much (if any) twist.  I usually do end-up putting a good number of twists in the loops and it seemed they just stretched a bit until everything locked-up.

Mr. M.  One can actually get by with less than one twist per inch on a flemish string, but I get a little spooked shooting that kind of string.  When a string is shot in, it doesn't stretch much, but the more it's twisted, the more it will stretch.  I'm not talking big differences here.  A lot of folks wouldn't even notice it, but it does occur.
