I need some advise on knapping

I have just recently started flint knapping,so i'm going to ask all you pros(i know your out there)for your methods for getting the head thinner?thank you

I too have just started, but work with a few guys that do it and one of the guys let me borrow a dvd called the art of flintknapping I cannot remember who is on it but it shows that in order to thin you need to grind the edge and use like an ishi stick at the correct angle to get the flake to carry across the center. I hope that makes some sense i was having trouble doing the same it's all about angle and pressure.

From one Novice to another....I'd say practice, practice, practice and hit up some knap-in and pay attention to the pro's. Learning how to make arrowheads has been the most frustrating hobby that I have ever attempted.
 Don't ya just love a challenge!

There are sites on the web that has a format as this.  those guys will help you as well.  Practice will get those long flakes across the surface-easy for me to say, much harder for me to do.  We have obsidian here and i think-don't know-that it may be easier than chert of flint.  Still not satisfied with the work, so practice is in order.

Learning to make thin points takes a lot of correct practice. Platform and angles are the secret. Woody Blackwell is the best i have ever seen in person. His video is called the Art Of FlintKnapping and is really good. Try to find a teacher if you can. Good luck.
