How does birch work for arrow shafting?

I had some once. I thought they were pretty good. A bit heavy and they didn't always like to stay straight, but in general pretty good. I am not sure you will gain much over something such as Douglas Fir which is fairly heavy and strong and stays really straight.

Birch is my favorite hardwood.  Maple and hickory are a bit heavier.  Ash is a very close second. If you want a heavy, hard hitting arrow, birch is a good choice.  Stays as straight as the other hardwoods and is as easy to straighten.  If sealed properly, all hardwoods will stay prettry straight.  However, if you carry your arrows in a bow quiver under your arm, as I often do, they will develop a little bow.  Quite easy to work out though. I don't shoot hardwoods much because they're heavier than I need, but when I need a heavy arrow, I choose birch.  Killed a nice moose with a birch arrow a few  years back.
