At the end of the Trad Deer Hunt we had a ghillie challenge. Two guys hid in a 15 yard wide by about 50 yard long stretch of woods and brush. They had about 10 minutes to hide from us. Pac had a home made ghillie and Larry had a Rancho Safari 3/4 length. Here are the pictures from only 10-12 feet away. See if you can find them. Add your own pictures of your ghillies if you want as well.

With no offense intended, neither of these guys are small. These pics were seriously at only about 5 yards!

Ghillies on the ground are an awesome and exciting way to hunt.

Drewster

That is awesome.  Hope they have some good shooting lanes in that tangle :-)  They could probably reach out and grab a deer's leg.

Not my first from the ground, but I took my first trad deer from the ground with a ghillie last week.  A great feeling and quite the rush.

I doubt I conceal as well as those to guys.  Those are awesome.

Looks great.... but what's the trick in getting a shot through the Vietnam jungle canopy around them ?

Very nicely hidden but as stated above, can they get shut off ?
I think a better challenge would as they are prepared to take shot, but still good photography.

One of the hunters had himself set up to shoot. Imagine that! At 6'4 and 270. He is hidden that well and in a shooting position! By the time we saw him, he would have had a good quartering shot. I will add another pic of him standing against a tree later. He is still nearly invisible. Both suits worked well. I took a pic of Pac seated in shooting position as well and he is very hard to see!

Friends call me Pac

I have never seen a photo of me in my ghillie so I really didn't know how effective it would be.  I wanted to really test it so I set up less than 5 yards from the edge of the road.  I figured if I could hide from 2 guys that was looking for me from a distance of less than 5 yards my suit would be good to go with deer.

The photo shows me in the prone position. If you look closely my tennis shoes give me away.

I know it looks like I am in a briar patch but in reality I am in a position to shoot over the knee high briars when I assumed a sitting position.  Now I know why deer seem to try and look through me instead of at me when i ghillie up.

It seems to me that the ghillie would truly be effective if it could successfully camoflage the hunter when the hunter if seated, ready to shoot, with very little if any cover between the shooter and the target.  Any pics of that?

This pic is of Larry STANDING next to a tree in his 3/4 length Rancho Safari ghillie.

Remember that Larry is roughly 6'3, 270lbs and STANING UP! This pic is taken at 5 yards...

Anybody else want to play? I would love to see more pics of ghillies in action. I know there are other threads on this, but some new pics would be cool.

I have another picture of Pac sitting up, but I am having trouble getting it to post. I will work on it later today. His homemade ghillie is excellent and worked as well as the Rancho Safari. Great job fellas!

I built one last year and it is amazing how well it worked. had a doe sub 5 yards walk by, stop look at me stare at me for 2 minutes and walk away. I have never seen anything quite like it. I had zero cover between myself and her-

I am working on my second ghillie now.
