Elk setup?

As some of you saw from one of my previous posts, I plan on taking my first trip after elk next year.
Wondering whether I need to look at increasing my draw weight or arrow weight.
What I'm deer hunting with this year is a MOAB #53 @ 28" (I draw 27.5").  I'm shooting 30" AD Trad Lites and 200 gr. WW Elites.
Is this enough?

If its dialed in and put in the right spot I say YES ...

I like heavier, but if you shoot that well and keep it close you'll be fine.

No problem... you put that arrow behind the shoulder about 1/3 up from the belly and you'll be pulling your arrow out of the dirt on the other side..... there have been many many elk taken with 50 pound bows or less....

I am, by no means an expert, but I was facing the same problem a while back. I was concerned that my #55 Bushbow wasn't enough. Then I remembered my first elk hunt, with a rifle, it is a tough hunt. I opted to shoot the #55 weight as well as I could rather than shoot a heavier weight that I might have difficulty with in times of fatigue or elk fever duress. It is hard to simulate being winded at 9500 ft when you practice at or close to sea level.

I wouldn't go any lighter but, it will work fine if you put it right in the wheelhouse. Accuracy and sharp matter most. I have kilt (catched) 6 elk with trad gear. 2 with 200g WW, 613g 32" Beeman Classics 50lb limbs, 56lbs to me (Must be pretty close to your setup). Then switched to 61lb limbs. One with a 770g FMJ with an Abowyer Wapiti. 2 with 560 grain FMJ with Zwickey Eskimos 175g up front. 1 with 620g cedar with a 125g Eclipse. Pass thru on one WW, (other WW 26" of penetration). Zwickeys and the Eclipse all pass throughs. Least penetration on the Abowyer, don't know if it was the angle, where I hit him (through the leg), the fact that he was a big bull, it's a thick broadhead or all of the above. My advice would be: SHARP, ACCURATE, UPHILL, CLOSE TO THE ROAD. Get your wife a good frame pack! Good Luck and have fun!

I would say you should be fine for elk. Just make sure you get them close and make a good shot.

As long as your total arrow weight is over 600 grns you will do just fine with that setup!

you are good to go.  Hit the boiler room and get ready for a lot of glorious hard work to get lots of meat in the freezer.

Just make sure that business end of your arrow is scary sharp and you put the arrow were you want it the poundage is just fine.

Plenty o power.  Just hit the mark!!!  My friend made a bad shot with his 280 FPS "Wheel bow" and guess what he has in his freezer?  That's right my elk he helped me pack out.
