so for those of you that burn, what do you do with arrows built for a customer that have burn marks at the ends where the red hot ribbon is close to the arrow shaft?

Bind the ends of the feathers to cover the burn marks.

After a little practice you wont get burn marks

That will stop with experience.  You just need to learn the proper distance to set your ribbon at.

I don't know a good fix once you have burn marks although I do like the binding idea.

A couple of things that help me avoid burns aside from the correct ribbon gap are blowing on the ribbon to cool it inbetween arrows and leaving the feathers a touch longer than my desired finished length.

This allows me to keep the ribbon over the quill rather than the shaft and then trim/taper the leftover quill smoothly down to the shaft with a knife.

Like said before, when burning you have to have the ribbon just right.  You won't have any burn marks once adjusted properly.
