Is this abnormal?

I am setting up my new Kiowa recurve and the recommended brace height is between 7 and 8.25". I found the "sweet spot" to be at 9". Anything less than that was very noisy. Is this normal?

bigbadjon

I wouldn't say its abnormal. However a bow is usually at it top performance on the lower brace heights. You may want to try upping your arrow weight and lowering your brace height or evaluate using string silencers effectively. What is your setup? Maybe someone we dial your problem down.

The bow is #45@28, my draw is 27" and I shot 51lbs spine POC arrows, 410 grain.

bigbadjon

What kind of string and silencers are you using?

Fastflight string and beaver fur

bigbadjon

Using fur you won't be able to tune your silencers, so you might try wrapping your string loops with yarn where they hit the limbs. If your string is new you might also stretch it for awhile to get it to settle.

By-the-by If you are happy with what you got it won't hurt to shoot with your brace height a little high. I just think you might eeck out some extra performance with some extra tuning.

It is a tad high-your arrows might be a little light?

Make sure your not voiding your warranty! Not sure if that company is like that, but i know a couple that are! Either way good luck!

I know with my 32.25" draw length, I have to set the brace height on the high end, exceeding the upper recommendation on some of my bows.  The only way I can quiet the darn things while shooting 3 under.  I have tried about everything aside from cupcakes and ice cream for string silencers and found the rubber spider legs prove to be the best for me... at the upper brace height.

Additionally, I need to mention that I only shoot 9-9.2 grains per pound on all my bows as I like a fast arrow!
