I leave for wyoming unit 34 with a cow moose tag in about 4 weeks, my set up as of now looks like its going to be a Robertson Fatal Styk, 56#@28" shooting a 530 grain axis with simmons land shark heads.  I kind of feel like I want to be over 60#, for you bigger game guys, do you think this set up is enough?

I dont know much about simmons broadheads. But if your broadhead is sharp and your aim good. I think no problem. Have a great hunt & good luck to ya!

ericmerg

its plenty in all reality its a good heavy thin arrow but if you feel you should be over 60# you really should be dont let us influence your confidence in your setup let the setup give you confidence
any animal you see posted that i say i personally harvested was eaten

Ulysseys

I only think 60 because of my lack of experience with an animal that large.  The wyoming minimum is 50 so I feel like I'm hovering near that.

No problem with your set up if you do your part.

With your setup ,put that missle where its suppose to go and enjoy your tenderlions on low campfire coals.Best of luck!
Quote from Howard Hill.( Whenever he taught someone to shoot) "Son make up your mind right now if you want to target shoot or hunt as theres a world of differance between the two"

If your draw is over 27" you would get as much cast with that Fatal Styk as a 65 pound longbow,  shooting the same arrow, and no one would question that. Now all you need is a good shot and a fat cow moose to slow your arrow down a bit.

ericmerg

due to the fact its a 2 blade if you feel 100% sure on your shooting then it'll do its job i just always push for more bow im biased haha

Bjorn

Killing big animals with bows has always been more about shot placement than bow poundage; just put it in the right spot. You need enough power to penetrate into the second lung.

SERGIO VENNERI

Perfect setup ! As Bjorn says , shot placement is paramount !

As for state minimum weight, an instructer once told me it's what's written on the bow that counts.  If your ever tested for weight just pull back as far as you can and you'll hit any minimum requirement.

that's an intresting method bowless.

my method said " never be anywhere close to the minimum requirement" he was one that stated everyone should be atleast 20# over

Ken Taylor

I'm an old(? LOL) moose hunter.

Your setup is fine.

Just remember that your hunting a set of lungs.
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

Shoot straight and take lots of photos. Your setup is more than up to the task.
