Bought a big dipper, filled it with waterbase poly. How many dips do you do to seal your woodies?I put four coats when applying the wipe-on,the dipping seems to put on a heavier coat.

May I ask why so many coats? When I did wipe on poly 3coats seemed to me more than enough. I used 0000 steel wool between the first and second coat.Third coat went over the second coat, then wax.

I usually use Bohning lacquer -- two dips.  Have used water based polycrylic as well.  It's even thicker.  Only two coats of it as well. Steel wool lightly between coats and after the second coat.

Bjorn

Yep that's what I do-2 dips.

I use Minwax Poly-U thinned with Mineral spirits.  Usually two dips is plenty for my woodies.

I use bohning and use 2 coats and water stain first.I steel wool between first  to coats.I dip and let drip with my rack made by Legends bows, works great.

AkDan

take a damp rag and wipe your shafts...let them dry than steel wool...will make much less work later!

I use profin and usually go with 4 or 5 coats.   no need to thin or mess around its ready to go in the can.  It does target target burn though.
