I had a custom LW chopper made. Thought I would try another chopper due to some feather noise in my design. I checked 2 RW choppers and they look(face) the same direction as my LW chopper. What's up? I've been chopping LW feathers in my chopper with no problems. I know this is no surprize but...I'm confused. Does anyone have a pic of a LW chopper they could post, and does it REALLY matter?

I know this isn't the best pic.
BUT..this IS a left wing jig.
I took this a while ago for a "how to"

The tail end goes on the left of a left wing jig.

..unless we're talking moon/nanner cut.

I remember your post wondering about noise a couple days ago....you could be finding part of the reason.

The feather should lay so the flat part of the base is sticking up...keeps the whole feather laying flat rather than being held up by the base.

Yep, my custom LW chopper seems to be a RW chopper! Thanks John.  :knothead:    :banghead:

Well I don't like being the bearer of bad news...

I just hope the bad news helps.

Hopefully you can get a new one made correctly for you...with no charge.

I'm wondering if the tops of your feathers were a bit ragged because of this causing some of the noise...?

Sometimes, but even the "good" chops made noise. I will have to have my order at 3R checked.

I have a left wing chopper. I chop right and left wing feathers out of it. The only problem I have is on the "narrow" or point at the front of the feather I have to trim sometimes.

Thanks Benjy. Does it work on those plastic fins that go with the foam shafts? What do you think about the chops? Make any significant difference in noise or flight?

I use all three of my choppers both wing with no big issue.  For a custom shape, I use a burner.

Thanks Kyle. That gives me hope!

Mike, I played with the height adjustment on mine (4" shield cut). When I chopped them as tall as I could get them they made noise. I just kept lowering the height until the noise was normal for shield cut feathers.

I had those custom made from the toy department at Wallie World, just for you!

I KNOW you did!   :bigsmyl:    :p  I just rec'd a r/w shield Chopper from TJ. It chops just like my "CUSTOM" l/w chopper. My l/w should've been made facing the other direction so the feather would lay flatter in the chopper. It works, just not as well as it could. Like I told TJ, "Good enough for the girls I run with".    Thanks for all the help and replies. You too Benjy  :D

A custom"backwards" chopper?

Are they all the same way or is there a RW and a LW?
