I'm trying to teach myself how to free hand sharpen things, be it knives or BH's.  I want to be able to sharpen things in the field or at least back at camp.  It helps me to see other peoples' technique in videos rather than just reading about it.  There is alot out there on the web but at this point I don't know what's good and what's bad technique.  Do people have suggestions for DVDs on sharpening?

Thanks,

YouTube "how to sharpen a knife" or whatever you want to sharpen, there are some good ones out there. Then it's like shooting, everyone has their own style.

Jeff - Hey I forgot to call you back.  I talked with the park ranger and found out where they are seeing some hogs so we need to get out there.  Sadly I have a stress frature in my ankle so it will be a bit but I'd love to borrow the DVD.

Brianlocal3 - I've watched a ton of videos on youtube, the problem is knowing which is good technique and which is not.

It's like shooting, some like 3U some like split.  Try a couple different methods , and you'll get your style. I'll post a link to how I sharpen. (closely)

Not sure what kind of sharpener you are using but I think the most important thing to know about sharpening is to get a very good understanding of all the steps needed to get a razor sharp edge. Regardless of the type of sharpener the steps or the prosess is the same. Setting the bevel, refining the bevel, creating a bur and removing the bur and stropping. It sounds like it should be obvious but for a lot of people including me its/was not. By understanding the steps and knowing when to go the next step you should be able to sharpen knife/broadhead with any type of sharpener.

Thats my 2 cents worth.

I just watched two short videos last night on kmesharp.com.  I think that these two guys should know what they are talking about since they sell the kme sharpeners.
