Getting ready to order a new string and need some help.  Im trying to get to a 6.5" brace height on my 58" bow. I shot it all summer like that and it shot great.  I bought a 56.5" string after summer and the lowest the bow would go is 7" brace.   So how much longer should I order the next one to get down a 1/2" in brace height? was thinking  57 1/4 or 1/2 then twisting until its braced right but idk.  thanks

Night Wing

The general rule of thumb for a 58" recurve is to get a string 4" shorter so that would be 54". For a 58" longbow, get a string 3" shorter so that would be 55".
Blacktail TD Recurve: 66", 42# @ 30". Arrow: 32", 2212. PW: 75 Grains. AW: 421 Grains. GPP: 10.02
Blacktail TD Recurve: 66", 37# @ 30". Arrow: 32", 2212. PW: 75 Grains. AW: 421 Grains. GPP: 11.37

Shorter string = greater brace height

yup current string is 56.5 and im getting a 7" brace. need 1/2" shorter brace height to get to where I want it since I shoot it better with less brace

Killdeer

A 57" string should do it (take you to a 6" brace and twist up to 6.5"), if your measurements are correct. Have you measured the string?

Have you taken into account possible stretching?

I just measured it before  posted and its exactly 26.5".  Ill measure it again just to be safe.   since its fast flight material and im assuming the builder will stretch them when making them im guesssing they wont stretch much. Only time I have had string really stretch was when the builder didnt strtch them or they were made from that b 50 dracon stuff.  Ill have to emial the company and see. thanks

never mind, I measured it  wrong the first time, the measuring tape starts at 4" so i measured at teh wrong part. remeasuring it(end of loop to end of loop), it came out to 55.75.  so I guess ill order a 56.5" string and hope thats the right lengh for it.  sound right?  wish I could try a few sizes before ordering.

56.5" should do the trick.  What size serving depends on the material and strand count--you should be able to tell the string maker what type nock you are using and they can use the size that gives the best fit.

Im going to order from you actually.  wanted to try a endless loop string, think 450 and halo. do  just put the bow weight ad you choose strand count ect..  thanks

I can do that, no problem.  If the length isn't right, just let me know and we'll try something different, no charge.
