Removing old crown from Carbon Arrows?

So I picked up a bunch of heavy carbons, mostly CE Heritage 350s, and the arrows were originally crowned and crested. I like the original look but the paint is chipped and marked in a lot of places on many of the arrows and many need to be re-fletched. I would like to strip off the old crown and either replace with a new crown or perhaps just apply wraps. I guess I could place wraps over the crown but would prefer to start from scratch.

So here is the question, how should I go about removing the old crown without damaging the carbon shafts.

steve i spray painted some of thoes shafts once and didn't like how it turned out.... i just chraped most of the paint off with my pocket knife and then used alchol to get the small stuff off.  i wasn't real sure about scraping at first but after it was done they looked new.  i wouldn't do that to most carbons but the heritage shaft has a different layer on it that maked their finish really tuff... i think they actually call it "something?" tuff. the name fits.

I would use steel wool or wet sandpaper for automotive paint jobs. if that doesnt work try the liquid sandpaper and it may just do it.

If you are going to cover the crown with new paint or wraps there's no need to strip anything.   Just sand it until you have fresh surface all around and apply your new paint/wraps.  But I wouldn't go to the trouble of removing all the old paint first.  Just scratch it up with some sandpaper so whatever you apply over it has a good surface to adhere to.

I would try some acetone.  I clean all my carbon shafts with it before I apply wraps, it works at taking off the labels on carbons too.

I've used acetone with a fine 3M pad and it worked well....

Acetone would be my choice too...

I've stripped lots of carbons with Zip Strip or similiar gel type strippers. No damage and you would never know they had ever been painted.

I've used one of those red feather strippers for carbons and aluminum and then wiped acetone on with a rag for the little leftover spots. Worked great!

I use MEK methal e (something) Ketone  I put it in a dip tube and dip them for a few minutes.. bam your done.  you can get it at any hardware store..

Joe,that's Ethel (not sure of the spelling).Used it for years in my job,building kitchen counter tops (as a cleaner). BTW, DO NOT get it in your eyes. Will feel as though someone is gouging them out!
  Question, when you put them in the dip tube, can you dip fletching and all? have wondered about this for awhile.

 BE carefull with that MEK guys, it is VERY toxic and will go straight to your liver just by getting it on your skin.   :eek:  Use a breathing apperatus, and gloves so you don't get it on your skin.
That said, it does work well and will dissovle almost anything (including your liver!)
