SPLIT FINGER/THREE UNDER

Im thinking about purchasing a bow from a buddy who shoots 3 under. I shoot split finger...

The question that I have is how will this effect arrow flight, and how much will it adversely effect my shooting?

If it is not a custom bow, you should be fine going either way, but if it is custom, you might want to find out if it was tillered for three under or split.

(And if I'm not correct, I don't mind being corrected by somebody who actually knows what they're talking about.

Hey Joe,

I agree with Pat. If the bow was custom and tillered for 3 under the limbs would be a little out of time if going to split. I doubt it would make a huge difference either way. I have started shooting my bows 3 under and there is slightly more noise but other than that I really can't tell any difference.

You buying another bow from Frank???

LOL......Steve..You guessed it..Frank and I are testing out a bow and he snaked his opportunity to shoot it first. It is a Heavy hybrid, and if he gets it tillered for 3 under it will be hard for me to make any conclusive decisions.

I shot split for years until switching to 3 under about a year and a half ago. I noticed no difference in the way my bows shot. I was even able to leave my nocking point alone.

I have a recurve I had tilled for three under as that is what I shot when I ordered it. Since then I went bac to split with my longbows. I started shooting it again, but liked my split release better. I cant tell much difference in noise or arrow flight.

Most of my bows weren't built for me. They were built for split finger shooting. However, I shoot all of em three fingers under because that method is more comfortable for my getting old digits.

I've asked this question of some top custom bow makers and they say I shouldn't sweat this.

The bow might sound a little louder to the ears if shot 3 under rather than split finger.

On the shooters forum theres several threads that might help you out as well. But, i seriously switch back and forth about every dang 6 months...this is what scares me most about diving into a custom bow whether or not it will make a big difference!

Im a three under shooter,I shoot my shop bows all the Times made for split fingers.just set my nock a bit higher.Dont build bows for myself just shoot something I have in that is the right grip and weight.When I do shoot a Three under bow it does sound a tad better and Nock isn't as high.

It doesnt really matter for me. I tune any new bow from scratch and they all end up around the same with a bow tillered for 3 under or not.......I shoot 3 under and all nock points end up around 5/8.........Dont sweat it just tune it and shoot.......

I like wise have never been able to tell ethier or, tune it and bingo. Even in noise as long as arrow weight is proper bows are still quiet. I told Nate to tiller it for split for you Joe. I am having him build mine to math my royal, and not a take down,I may step up in weight too!! You better save some bucks, cause when you shoot it you know you will want it.
