1st walk with loaded Badlands 2200

Had 30 lbs total weight and did about 2.5 miles today. Once I got the belt and shoulder straps adjusted it felt pretty good. Not sure about the pocket features though. Plastic snaps don't seem as strong as they could be.

Seems like it would be tough to get a load of Elk meat AND my gear in there. I guess gear would be the last load though. I have been considering an Eberlestock pack but will get some miles on this pack 1st.

The Badlands are great packs. If the clips break, at least they have a lifetime warranty on all their packs.

What would you guys recommend for a goal as far as weight from a training aspect. I was thinking about build up to 50lbs and increasing the distance. I dont plan on having a pack that heavy going in but I know it will likely be heavier going out (hopefully!)

I don't want to go too heavy while training to avoid injuries.

Sounds like a good plan. I went to Eberlestock though instead of Badlands after last year. YMMV.

I carry in a light polymer pack frame for hauling meat. I hate messing up and having to clean my main pack. I always have a haversack with me to carry basic survival gear while hauling meat out on long distance walk in trips.

This pack is the 2200 model. Not sure where I got the "summit" name. Kind of concerned about the durability of this pack, I'd hate to have it fail 10 miles back in the mountains. Considering an Eberlestock.

the badlands 2200 is the best pack ive owned. my only beef is it isnt for small frame guys, especially 32 and under waist measurements.

as for what ive done with it, ive done a 5 day backpack trip (yes i had some of the gear strapped to the outside, the tent mainly), and have also hauled meat with it. stays pretty comfy with a load on. maybe just me though..

I did 5 days out of my 2200 last September. I used a good sized dry bag attached with the game shelf and the batwings. Don't know what it weighed but it was maxed out. I don't think I will ever be able to tear it up.

Mine is a few years old and doesn't have any plastic snaps.

My badlands 2200 is either 1st or second year model and hauls animals every year. Last year was 1/2 a yearling elk boned out + other pack jobs. The year before I packed two doe white tails at once + 6 other pack jobs. Over the years it has been excellent. Not sure if I look forward to new badlands pack, I will miss my original!

The 2200 are pretty hard to beat. I have packed out mule deer in one trip, including the entire hide and didnt really think it was that bad. I have however been having issues with the company, which I am not happy about.

I have been using a 2200 for my last 4 trips. I am really impressed with the amount of weight that I have been able to carry with it from enough gear for 7 days(had to lash a lot to the outside) to deboned elk quarters. It was worked flawlessly and everyone that has hunted with me has remarked about how impressed they are with that pack. No matter how hard I have been on the pack it still shows no wear and tear. I personally would not be concerned about it not holding up on a hunt based on my personal experiences.

Ok thought I would bring it back up...

After years of wear and what I thought was the best pack & possibly the best pack company for my style if hunting...

I found that their life time guarantee and customer service isn't what it used to be.

Probably won't buy grom them again!

I love mine! I almost broke down and tried the new KUIU but why fix what ain't broken! I should have weighed mine for turkey hunting this year! I had it loaded down with double bull blind, 2 large chairs, all my calls, 2 sets of rain gear for me and my son, food, water, pop, blanket for him to sleep while we waited! Put alot of miles on it! Elk hunting I use it but have never had the pleasure to pack anything out yet!

You wont have any problems. The 2200 will outlast you on an elk hunt! The only reason I switched from a 2200 (after several elk hunts with no problems) to Eberlestock was because the 2200 is pretty tall and I am not. The Eberlestock is more squat like me. On first impression, I think the Badlands is more rugged than the 'stock.

That's exactly what I found. I had both wings rip completely off after strapping 2 elk sheds to it. I sent it back, the repair was a joke and it took forever to get it back from them. I'm just glad I didn't have an elk or moose quarter on it! Went with an Eberlestock, and am very happy with it.

I also went with the Eberlestock and I am very happy. I am also a smaller framed guy and found the x2 to fit great and wear comfortably.

I paired mine up with an arrowmaster from Rod and it is a great combo.
I'm still tweaking little things but have found my favorite hunting combo that I don't leave camp without.

I have the badLands Ox frame, with a cheap pack attached to it. I use it to pack out deer quarters since I can't bring a whole deer home (live in a condo), let alone trying to drag one out when my usual walk is 20 to 30 min and thats really humpin it.

Like what huntinmuleys said the waist part didn't fit me to well, I had to modify it some to get a better fit.

I believe the 2200 can attach to the Ox frame.

You can attach a quarter to the frame and still have your gear in the pack. The quarter will sit between the pack and the frame.

If you think you'll be humping 50lbs I'd maybe try and shoot for 60 65lbs. Kind of like if you need to run 3 miles you should run at least 3.5 - 4 miles, cause it makes 3 miles feel like a cake walk.
