So I picked up new to me longbow, primarily to be used as an exercise bow. (Thanks "Joe Heavy Longbow Shooter")

The bow is 68", 90#@28. The construction looks to be 3 maple lams under brown glass. I think the Riser is Bubinga.

Anyway, the photo below shows the only markings on the bow.

Anyone recognize anything identifiable from the image that would help identify the bowyer? Just curious.

I did a couple internet searches and think this may be a Martin longbow based on the "ML-10". But not sure.

My plan is to craft a shelf plate and leather grip (currently missing both) for the bow using a tanned deer hide I got from Wissler last week and see how she shoots. Still the primary purpose will be to use this bow to prepare for my NM bow that should be here early next month!

Thanks in advance.

Yup, that looks like a Martin to me. 90# what a beast!     Great bows, good luck with it.

That is a Martin ML-10.  I like those bows but in the lighter weight though.

90@28 be carefull you may be conditioning your chiropracter.
Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a
difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem.

Looks like a Martin ML10 to me also. There was an archery shop here many years ago that had a 150# Martin longbow in the shop.It wasn't for sale, they had it there to see if anybody could pull it.

Thanks guys!

At the moment, not planning to shoot it much but who knows. The bow will definatley help me prepare for the 80# NM and it also will serve as a winter project. I think after I get the NM in hand I am going to refinish this bow. It really could be a sweet looking bow with a little TLC. Will be my first such endeavor, wish me luck.

Cool.  Those Martins were made to last and if you ever twist your ankle when hunting, you can use it as a walking stick to get out of the woods. (That is actually one of my criteria when I'm rating a hunting bow  :D  )

Those M-L 10 's could also pry a car from a ditch if need be....heavy duty!!

So I need to order a new string for this bow. I did get a new strike plate and a grip on it today and sent a few arrows downrange but the string is looking rough. I have read a few threads about this bow on other sites and people advised to switch to a D-97 string rather than using a B55 string. Anyone know if this bow would be ok with FF strings or should I stick with Dacron?

Thanks

I would stay with B-50 or B-55, if you go with a modern string material I would pad the loops just to be safe!
