My buddy Frank and I were hunting on a State Forest tract of land on Tuesday. It is one of those areas where the DCNR has put up fenced areas to see how the trees and plants grow without the deer in them.

I was walking the border of one to get to the top of a flat, about 3/4 of the way up I stopped to take off a fleece neck gaiter and all of a sudden I heard a loud vibration. I looked up to my right just in time to see a doe busting out of there in a hurry. She must have been watching me the whole time.

I slowly walked up to the corner where she was to see if I could see where she had been bedded(thinking she was inside the fence). I was really surprised when I got there.

Here she had been on my side of the fence and the vibration I had heard was when she hit the fence and busted thru.

They do fencing in my area to help the cedar trees they planted, took a lot of good land away from us. you cant even hunt within 1 mile of the fencing. She must have been scared lying on the inside of that fence.

difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem.

I was on the outside of the fence,as she was. She had actually broken through the fence to get on the inside. Lots of hair lost, had I not seen it I would not have thought they would do that.

That's pretty wild.  Ya would think a fence that size would keep anything out.  The strength of these deer is amazing when you think about it.  Thanks for sharing the experience.

A lot of deer go thru high fences in texas every year. They are tough.

Craig, you sure see a lot of cool things in the woods.

Yep, I have seen where deer have run through hog wire, the square the deer went through was stretched out double to say the least. And chunks of hair all around. Ouch.

Interesting.  Wonder what made her bust through rather than just run away along it, unless you caught her by surprise and she just bolted.  There goes the study.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

i would have went in there and got her. lol you can still hunt those areas. usually a 2 way gate you can go in. usually pretty large. would that be considered a canned hunt?    :saywhat:

Just think, Monk, if some dead-eye sonofagun with a stick and sharp pointing things got near you while napping, wouldn't you find some adrennalin to bust through about anything to just save your butt?
