Arm pain with glass bows, none with selfbows. Anyone else notice this?

My bows range from 53# to 62# at my draw length. I have many, many bows in my collection. If I shoot a glass bow one day, within ten shots I get pain in my elbow and forearm during the draw which can be very distracting. If I shoot a selfbow on another day, even if it is a lot heavier than the glass bow, I experience no arm pain during the draw after dozens of shots. I have a theory about this, but I would like to hear what you guys think. Thanks!

Maybe the way you grip the glass bows and angle of the hand and wrist.

I'm thinking that your glass bows have more draw tension early in the draw cycle, the sign of a very efficient bow design. Lots of self bows don't have that much tension that early in the draw cycle, although some certainly do. A bow with substantial string follow won't have much tension early in the draw.

Maybe the glass bows are causing a strain on certain muscles that you don't normally use as much?    :saywhat:

Grip shape. Most glass bows have deep pistol or locator grips and most self bows have straight or bulbous handles grips.

Second theory; its your conscience telling you to use wood instead of glass.

I'm with Shaun on this one, course we've built bows together so it's likely we think alike on this subject.

I'm going with theory number 2.    :)

Good thoughts, guys. I have been shooting glass bows with little reflex and grips very much like my selfbows (simple, straight grips), so I don't think the grip is the cause.

Moebow, it's my bow arm, and it happens towards the end of my draw.

I, too am with Shaun -- grip shape.  Most self bows have a relatively straight grip as opposed to the "pistol" grip in fiber glass bows.  Picture/video might help here.  You might also try a grip I recommend.  There are pictures of it in a thread called "grip question."  Just a thought.
