Well, this is long but worth the print.  Last night I had a big dry doe come in to an apple tree I've been hunting.  It was the final 15 minutes of shooting light and she gave me a broadside shot at around 20 yds.  Right before I drew she jumped at something and went on alert.  I drew my 70# Bighorn longbow back held on my spot and released.  She nearly turned inside out and moved and entire body length before my Zwickey Delta cedar reached her!  I saw my arrow disappear in her left ham and she spun away through goldenrod.
I waiting until dark and went to where she was standing and followed the pushed goldenrod until it opened up and found a good looking blood trail.  I backed out and went home and called my son.
He and I took the trail about 2 hrs. after the shot and this old girl did every trick I've seen.  She went about 75 yds. and headed for, above your head, flora rose and briars.  We slowly picked our way through on the blood smears and tracks and after another hour and 50 yds. we broke into and open area and found good blood again but then bumped her.

I'm anxiously waiting...what happens next?  Looking forward to seeing a picture of this "first deer of the season".
