I have made a bunch of small game points out of empty 357 or 38 special brass glued to a wood shaft.  You can add lead to get the weight you want.

They work best if you put a small brad or nail in the primer hole and leave it sticking out 1/4-1/8".  It helps keep the blunt from glancing off when hitting small game.

If you really want to get fancy you can cut a groove in the top with a hacksaw or dremel cut off wheel and glue in a magnus belleder blade.

They work great and are just very inexpensive

I found this photo online but I made them just like this but cut the nail down short.

You can also use a washer behind a screw in field point for aluminum or carbon arrows.

Another photo I pulled off the web.  I made bleeder/blunts pretty much just like this but used either magnus bleeder blades or cut triangles out of some steel banding and sharpened with a file.

This stuff ain't no rocket surgery science!

Get a wing nut that just fits over the end of a wood shaft. Sharpen if you like.

i'm going to do some squirrel for the first time since I used to get them with the 410.

do you guys always shoot heads with blades and if so is that for only ground shots? i'm sure this is a common question but I'm wondering about my arrows sticking the tree barely enough to keep it up there.

thanks for any info.. T

I found a broadhead works best for me, i have shot several with a judo to have them run off i am sure they are busted up inside but still get away, i am not comfortable with that
so as Rob said, i just use broadheads anymore
any head will work, we all have worn out filed down heads we dont use...i try to keep my shots low, if i miss i promise ya it is forever stuck in the tree or gone into the wild blue, and ya sure dont want a broadhead shot off into the distance like that

I don't care for judos on squirrel. They are tough little buggers and I have had them run off after a solid hit with a judo. I recently bought some 125 grain Ace hex blunts, which I may give a try. Otherwise I'm sticking with broadheads. I have some old Bear green heads that have been sharpened several times and changed from one arrow to another enough that the paint is too crappy for any collector to want them. I'll use them or worn down Zwickeys I think.

Them is pound for pound the toughest animals I ever shot. I also had a few run off after being shot at 15 yds or so with Ace hex heads. I use a STOS head the same one I shoot deer with. I want to give them a sporting chance!

STOS 145 Grain. If you get tired of being barked at, harrased, and having a sore neck trying to peek around your tree to see the "herd of deer" that has to be making all that noise. The cost is negligible!!!!!!

Plus they are good eats!

hvyhitter

I have a bunch of bodkins and ma-3s that I've picked up dirt cheap over the years that I use for squirrels and groundhogs..........
Bowhunting is "KILL and EAT" not "Catch and Release".....Semper Fi!

woodchucker

Bodkins are good!!! (and dirt cheap!)

But, My vote has to go to the Zwickey Eskimo!!!!!

(vertualy indestructable, and easily touched up with a file)
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

I use judo points, they seem to work the best and I never lose arrows into the dirt using them.  The points are brutal though and make a big hole...

my point exactly,,, I'm thinking there must be alot of arrow's w/ broadheads sticking out of trees out there. before i was old enough to use a 410.  I killed hundreds of them with a wrist rocket shooting 32 & 36 cal round balls so my blunts on a 550gr arrow should do some busting.
