Trad Dove Hunting?

Anybody tried it? I did today and let me tell you what; I am no threat to the local dove population! This is gonna be a hard one to knock off the bucket list but it has become a challenge now and I am going to keep trying till I make it happen. As of today the score is about dove 20 and Bisch 0. if anybody else has had any success doing this I am open for any tips and advice.

I have done it before and have actually connected with two birds. I was probably only 10 or so.

I actually shot my first with a field tip and a rattan bow made by John Scifres that was given to me at my first Cloverdale Nationals back in 2000.  It was something to do for a kid in the country.

The other was shot like most of my other attempts by walkin up dirt/gravel roads and shooting them when they left the power lines or i jumped them from eating gravel.  

It was alot of fun and very gratifying upon connection.  Unfortunately i grew up and moved to pittsburgh (city living     ) and havnt really done it since.

i have been doing it now since the 1st of sept. this is my first time, n your right its not easy at all, buts its fun as heck. i have only taken 2 dove, but i had to chase them down for 10 yards or so. i use a 6'' wire head for them and i only break there wings. i have learned to lead them about 1' ahead n on top of them,since the feathers are slowing the arrow way down. i still miss but im missing not by much, when they fly foward n are not cutting any other direction. im also shooting at them no further than 20 yards. good luck and dont get to frustrated. its a great work out chasing the flu flu's.

Sounds pretty simple to me.just kidding, thems some fast tiny targets . I can,t get one sitting on the ground.If you get one out of the air thats some shooting. Bunch of fun.

I've tried for a number of years Bisch and I'm 1 for about 500 at this point.  One tough critter to get to the ground without a shotgun...

Truth be told the one was on the ground also... but after 30 or so misses one gets a bit testy...

I shoot 4 last year. All on the ground. Well, 3 on the ground, one on a fence post. Now, in the past I never considered it sporting to shoot a sitting dove or duck or goose. But that was gun hunting. With a bow, it's a different story. You're still 30-50 yards away. And a dove ain't very big. I was thrilled with the ones I got.

I'm also too cheap to try and shoot them flying. At my dove field, there's a pretty narrow window you have in which to shoot and still be able to find your arrow. Otherwise, it'll be over the river, or in the briar patch, or stuck in some tree.
