Beginning all over again

After a lay-off of 20 years, I've finally gotten back to archery.

If possible, it seems more fun now than when I was a kid. While I migrated to firearms during those 20 years, there's something much more relaxing about a bow. No recoil from a 7.5x55 Swiss round and steel buttplate, no searching the couch cushions for any and all change to scrape together for a box of ammo and range fees. No ear protection and no smell of cordite. Well, ok, the cordite I miss...

I'm thinking me and my dad's old Temujin are going to be spending a lot of time together...

Thanks to everyone here and all your posts and comments. I've learned a lot and it's made my transition back to bows much easier!

Welcome! The quietness of archery makes me feel more a part of the woods/outdoors. Firearms are so noisy it separates us from it by making us so intrusive.

Welcome back.. I'm one who came back too, and I'm loving it!! and will go no further in my quest. Trad bows and people are the ultimate IMHO..Never ending challenge..

Thats a big part of it... To me it is like hunting back when i was a kid... It is like being 15 again!!! An animal in range is huge again...

I have two Schmidt-Rubins, and that recoil is rather mild. That being said, I haven't shot them in a few years. Something nice about not needing hearing protection!

Actually, shooting in the backyard is what I did when I was a kid. Lived on a cul-de-sac with only a hill behind us as a neighbor. No such luck nowadays!

Bruce- I'm up in northern Illinois near Joliet.

While I'm not likely to get rid of my firearms, the peace and quiet of the archery range is a welcome change of place. Now I just have to make it out to an outdoor range around these parts.

Gander Mountain's indoor range and my basement are nice stop-gap measures for a quick shooting fix, but something about archery just screams for open air.
