Currently shooting a 44@29 Toelke Whip. I draw 29 and shoot 30" Beman MFX 600s with 75 gr insert and 125 gr head. Arrows shoot great and I'm happy with the performance.

Here's the issue. With a 30" arrow, my broadheads are really close to my hand...if I overdraw, which I often do before settling into my anchor, the broadhead actually makes contact with the bow. I'd like to go to 31" arrows, but would like some input before I drop $125 on a new dozen.

Question time:  Do you think I should bump up to 500s or stay with 600s. Stu's calculator shows the 600s pretty weak at 30" and really weak at 31".  500s at 31" with 200 total up front spine just right, and I'd be at 12 gpp. The 500s sound appealing, but I'm not sure what to do....so I come to the land of experience.

Jeff - my draw is 29" and my Whip pulls 53@29.  When I was shooting MFX's I was shooting 500's cut 31" w/the same insert as you, but 175 grains up front.  You could stick with the 600's cut to 31"....change the HIT insert to 50 grains or go with the aluminum HIT insert which is 16 grains and add the extra weight back into the broadhead.  I will say this...I made a switch to the AD trad lite shafts which are tapered.  My Whip loves these better than any Beman or Easton shaft I've tried....and I've tried a few different varieties of each.

Just because you are passionate about something, doesn't mean you don't suck at it.

Kentucky Jeff

I have a Hill Longbow that is probably right around 46 or 47# at my draw of 30".  I shoot 31" .500 Trad onlys with a 100 grain insert and 125 grain broadhead and they fly great with that bow.  But when I step up 5-6 lbs they are too weak.  FWIW

Thanks guys. I know I'm right on the cusp. Keep the advice coming.

I'll probably give Dan a call tomorrow and get his opinion. He's always good about being available and giving his expert input.

Looks like the 600s at 1" longer won't make much significant difference so that's what I got.
