Adam that is a great pic. Definetly looks like a mature adult I have never seen a live adult copperhead here in Ohio. I did run onto a bunch of babies about five years ago. There sure is a lot of myths floating around about them. That one is definetly a dandy!

A self imposed conservation effort.
I usually keep in mind every other one I come across.  Have come across only one myself and it was left behing. The next one is in trouble!

macksdad, I've got two from southern Ohio this summer. Both were given to me by someone else. Killed in a barn after killing a couple kittens and a wounding a large dog severely.

Good photo, I used to catch snakes for the venom but in recent years I leave them be if they leave me be..

You guys get down south and those things are a dime a dozen. We used to ride the forest rides here at night when the temps where warm of the day and cool to th 70s at night and catch 10 to 20 copperheads a night. They would crawl out on the gravel for the warmth a few hours after dark.
I have ran over 2 this year while wountain biking in the Cherokee national forest, just pick the feet up and keep rolling.

GRINCH

In Northern oklahoma we say them alot, here in alabama they aren't as prevelont but see them on occasion glad you let him live.

The place we took the pic is a great location to see them. There are many places near my home where both Timber Rattlesnakes and copper heads are quite plentiful.

JimL, by killing that snake under your home you might have saved your dog or a family member a lot of problems so I think you did the right thing.   I'll take out poisonous snakes around my home but in the woods I don't bother them.

It took me  few but finallt got the cacamakes joke
