The days crawl a little slower as august approaches. ive been planning, preparing, training and anticipation Aug 27 for some time.

The day my truck turns west cannot get here soon enough.
...stood alone on a montaintop, starin out at a great divide, I could go east, I could go West, it was all up to me to decide, just then I saw a young hawk flyin and my soul began to rise......

I went on my first archery elk hunt in August of 1993.  Since that fall, I have only missed two seasons and one of those was due to open heart surgery.  I will be going again this fall and like the rest of you, can't wait!!  I look forward to elk season as much or more than anything else in the year.

Seems like the only reason I lose weight or get in shape is for elk season and I'mn doing it again.

I live across the road from an elk from with about 80 head, heard my first bugle yesterday, and quite a few today, talk about torture. Can't wait til September.

I'm in no hurry for season to open here. Heck, our trees just leafed out, and we still have some snow on the ground yet. I want to enjoy some summer!

Tracy, it is in the triple digits here already. I'd be glad to send you some "summer". LOL.

Went for a hike in the Bighorns today with the wife. She got to see an elk's nose in action. We were watching a cow up a hill about 200 yards away when the wind changed and blew at our backs. I told the wife, "Look fast, that elk will be gone in a second", and about that time the elk went from feeding without a care to full alert, nose up, and off she went into the trees.
And yep, there is still lots of snow in the high country, so some nice summer weather would be appreciated in Wyoming. September will be here before we know it.

Come July all thoughts and actions are consumed with the up coming season.
Thats when scouting starts.
Until then its just something that I think about every day.

I wasn't able to hunt at all last fall, so now that I can finally draw my bow and shoot I'm really looking forward to this upcoming season.

I'm planning on hunting the whole season here in Oregon this year to make up for last year. I've already started the scouting and planning process in earnest.

Here's a few trailcam pics from recent years to whet the appetite...
