Got a Silvertip riser on order, just wonder about making the grip chered or not...never had one and curious about what the owners of this checkered grip would say about getting one checkered

Personal preference for sure, but I would say yes.  Actually had Dave checker my PSA II riser, absolutely love it!

My silvertip is checkered. The quality of the checkering is terrific with very fine points. It feels terrific in the hand.

I had always thought that doing anything to the grip to make it "rough" would make it easier to torque the grip through the shot.  I asked a bowyer about this (one who checkers grips) and he reported the checkering provides a solid, unmoving positioning of the hand in a way that reduces torque.

I shoot recurves with checkered grips and uncheckered. I'll have to say my bow hand feels more secure and unmoving with the checkered grip, which I think is a good thing IF I set my bow hand over the center of the grip like I'm supposed to.

Bryce,I never had a checkered riser but when it came to order my Silvertips I never had a dubt,they not only look nicer but they are really useful and I plan to checker more older bows.Dave is one of the best in that and a lot of guys send him other bowyers handle to have the job done.

I have a Morrison with the pine cone on the grip. It kills my hand & I don't like it. Looks great though & it is not the checkering you are speaking of. I look at it this way.... They checker guns for a reason & it applies to bows too.

The fine checkering dave does is perfect. I had another recurve done and had a gunsmith match it. When he was done he said "Dave does it for how much?". He is good and reasonable.

Checkering is a personal thing but I'll add my opinion for thought. I think checking a bow handle is counter productive. The friction you achieve will not necassarily allow the bow to settle in the proper hand position should you grip it improperly. I also highly doubt that a bow (especially with a deeply dished pistol grip) given how it digs into your hand could slip any way during the draw. My belief is that checking is cosmetic and that the part you touch should be left smooth and polished to facilitate good form.

X2! I will add that it is deffinitely not just cosmetic "although is does look good" . My hand settles in the same place every time on my Tip. Also with gloves on..you don't get that slip/slide feel that you would on a smooth grip. I for sure wouldn't order a Silvertip without it. Well worth the money!

Absolutely very hard to beat a checkered Schafer grip.  I haven't found one better, and I been known to have a few bows.

Not checkering, but I just stippled my long bow and love it. I have never been a fan of checkering, I just do not like the feel. The stippling is alot more comfortable and does the job.
