My wife likes to shoot at targets and said she wants to give stumping a try.  Any ideas what I can use for a stumping head with a 1/4" woodie?

my first choice would be to go to a hardware store and get the rubber end covers they use metal legs(they do have them in 1/4") and add a few small steel washers inside then epoxy them on the shaft.Or you can use a small deep socket from a cheap socket set( 1/4" of course).I think you may also be able to use either a shell casing from a 25 caliber,or a 5.56 (AR15 shell).

i have some 1/4" hex head machine nuts , on my 5/16 dowel arra's , on a tapered point. in front of that i have two nickels. use 2ton epoxy , and they wont budge.

you might only want to try one nickel , they are 5 grams each. so count on  75-77 grains for each nickel.

3Rivers sells a rubber blunt for 1/4" shafts...the Barta Bunny Buster, I believe...

Onions

You can also try wire nuts. I use these on my kid's arrows.

Man! Thanks for that tip Onions! They also make great blowgun fodder. Learned that the hard way on the job when doing electrical work.

thats funny , i never thought to use a wire nut. have used em for blowgun blunts though. epoxy a steel ball bearing to the front and you got a nice chipmunk slammer.

you figure out what youre using yet?

Next time we drive to town I'll bring a piece of 1/4 shafting and try them all on for size.  Let the wife pick out what she likes nest and go from there.

Spent shell casings work great.  I just can't remember off-hand what the inside diameter of the most common are.  I've used .38's before, but don't remember what size shaft it was on.

My kids use 1/4" ramon arrows with regular field tips for stumping and it works great.  Depends how much weight she is pulling on wether you might want to get something to keep the arrow from burying.  Just guessing if she is using 1/4" that you might not need to go to the effort of putting on an alternative tip.   My kids arrows are fly fast like darts and rarely are we hunting for their arrows.

Ace makes their Hex Head blunts in 1/4".  I can't imagine a better stumping head.
