I shoot the thinnest tab I can get away with. My fingers have calloused and I like it better with the least amount between fingers and string. I use a single layer that I cut myself from 3-5 oz. oil tan that thins to half that upon usage. But when temps drop, for some reason I do release better with my tab than just fingers. My Cold tips suffer when releasing without a layer of leather...but at least I feel better knowing I can do it if necessary.

Mentioned previous, heavier weights may result in string plucking w/o a glove or tab. Been using a 5-finger work glove w/unscented baby powder on the fingers for about 10 years. String slips off pdq!
