I was at Tandy leather in Elgin, Illinois the other day and invaded their scrap bins for at least an hour. I found a number of samples and thought they would be perfect for bow grips. One of them was bright white and I KNEW it would look pretty wild on a longbow.

Here is the result with some natural sinew. I like it!

Anyone else ever try white on their bow?

Looks nice, but I can't keep white ANYTHING clean!   :knothead:

That looks great on that bow, but I would be worried about keeping it clean too.
Ask me about CTO.

That is attractive, but I agree with others, I don't think it'll stay white too long. But it might be even more attractive when in yellows a bit with age & use?

Real cool looking. The dirt will just make it look better.

Looks great. When it gets too dirty, replace it. I think it looks Awesome!

Hey, Just like a Black Belt in Martial Arts.

Originally the belts were white. They just got dirty with training. They never, ever washed the Martial Arts belt. The "Black Belt" was never really black, but sweat and blood stained brown.

I put, essentially white tanned deer hide on mine.  It is filthy now, but I really don't care.  They really are pretty when new.

That really makes the wood grain just jump out at you! I like it. When it gets dirty try cleaning it with rubbing alcohol. I have cleaned a few brown ones that way. I take a cloth, like a washcloth, and wrap the handle with it. Then pour enough rubbing alcohol on it to saturate it. Leave it for awhile, remove it and scrape the leather with the egde of something like a plastic paint scraper. Hold the scraper straight-up and run it down the leather with some pressure. Work around the grip doing these strokes until it looks pretty nice. If it's really bad you might have to repeat a time or two. Have a wad of paper towel to wipe the scraper off with at the end of each stroke. Put a 2" strip of painters edging tape around both ends of the grip to protect the bow finish. I've restored some really filthy grips this way to about new. Never tried it on a white one though.

Not really white but, more of a cream. This is the grip on my new HH Owl.

Awesome! I'm hoping mine kind of turns a yellow/cream with use if I keep it clean.

Dick, is that a Hill too?

Limblover...   That's one of my early (and still favorite) bows, "Out of the Closet"...  a Hill style, or my early interpretation of one.   I couldn't get juniper to duplicate a Cheetah, so I went with Eastern Red Cedar closet lining.  When I was looking for a name, my wife said, "There's only one thing you can name it!"   We both about died laughing.  It's a sweet bow, though it's up at the upper range I can draw now.
