Been associate for a few years. Bout time to make the next step.
Living and hunting with a traditional mindset.

I have been an associate member for 20+ years . I filled out my regular application twice and never turned it in . I probably never will .

Its a great organization but I really dont enjoy banquets and organized events all that much so I just cant see myself fitting in to the "regular" profile.

I joined in the late 1980s and it was one of the best decisions I've made.  A great bunch of folks.  The Bi-Annual Gatherings are well worth attending.

After bowhunting with my son-in-law for the past five years, he has now become a member.  We need to become more active in exposing the younger crowd to PBS. After all, they are our future.

PBS has a "Young Bowhunter" program and conducts a youth leadership hunt every 2 years or so.

Good going Tracy, glad to have you!

I'll admit that I am one of those that has a hard time with the name of the organization. Just do not like the "professional" moniker. Nonetheless, I have considered PBS in the past. However, what has actually prevented me from joining is not wanting to spread myself too thin. Besides my state hunting organization and the two groups listed in my sig line, for many years I have also been a Life Member of the RMEF and a B&CC Lifetime Associate.

That said, perhaps I should give PBS another look.

The BIG difference between PBS and other organizations is, it really is a "Society" not just a "club".

Please anyone that gets hung up on the word "Professional", please look it up in the dictionary--not trying to be a smart A$$.

MANY words have more than one meaning.

Rooselk

Steve, I have looked it up in the dictionary. With perhaps the exception of "knowing one's stuff" I really don't think any of the definitions apply. Even so, you make a very good point. The name is what it is and it's nothing that anyone should get hung up on (me included).

As I said, I will give PBS another look. Looks like there will be an off-year gathering in Eastern Oregon this summer and a banquet in Portland in 2012. I could easily make one or both of these events to check out PBS firsthand.

Sounds good R-elk, come track me down in Portland!

Good thread. I have just starting looking into joining PBS. Like some have mentioned I have had a little trouble with the name "professional". I had the assumption that PBS was a group of "eliteist's". However, I do feel that assumnption was wrong. I am assuming PBS will have a booth at K-zoo in Jan. I plan on talking to those folks at the booth.
What is the difference b/w a Regular member and Associate member?

Steve Clandinin

Iam now a member! I should have joined years ago as there beliefs have been the same as mine for forty years.Glad to be aboard.
Quote from Howard Hill.( Whenever he taught someone to shoot) "Son make up your mind right now if you want to target shoot or hunt as theres a world of differance between the two"

Steve H.

Onions:  The major difference between Associate members and Regular members are that Regular members can become an officer, vote for officers, and vote on other Society issues that arise.  That simple.

PBS was set up to protect the interests of bowhunters after seeing what happened to the NFAA being taken over by target archers.  They wanted to make sure that didn't happen to the PBS, very wise!

The Regular membership application process is set up, not to be elitist, but to be protective of the Society by making sure that only dedicated bowhunters have the opportunity to steer the Society

It is been a good choice since then.
