I'm looking for any advice on places to book a wild pig hunt in CA for this spring.  Fair chase only.
I would especially like to hear from anyone who has hunted there.  Searching the archives, I found Hillside Hog Haven and Tejon ranch mentioned.  Anyone been anywhere else they had a good spot and stalk hunt?

Bjorn

Hillside Hog Haven is as good as it gets; I have hunted there many times, often with my son; our fav area.
Never hunted Lake Sonoma; but it is one of the few places ( I know of) that has Hogs, and public access. Perhaps some other California hunters can fill you in. It is a popular hunt done mostly by boat access.

Frankly I think you would be better off hunting in Texas with 7th Age.

I have hunted a couple times at Hogs Wild in Coalinga, CA. They have rifle and bow hunting there, Standup people there and the hogs are a challenge. check out there website.

I have hunted Texas twice and I liked the Tejon a heck of a lot more.

It is a totally different experience than Texas as it is in the mountains and spot and stalk or ambush.

I saw pigs on every hunt in CA and out of 9 days in Texas, I had 3 come in and it was almost dark when they showed up.

I agree with Bjorn about Hillside Hog Haven.  The guy that manages that ranch is a trad bowhunter himself and the way he manages the hunt is to make sure that none of the hogs are run completely off the ranch due to overhunting or "chasing".  You will not believe how many opportunities you will have to shoot a hog and it is totally unfenced spot and stalk.  You will be very impressed at just how well the ranch manager knows every nook and cranny of that property.
Hogs Wild is a fenced property that they have purchased hogs for and allowed them to run free on.  I believe all the seed stock came from Texas and was let loose.  You cannot maintain hogs on a property that is rifle hunted without fences so if that is what you want go for it.  If you want "free range" go to Tejon Ranch or go to Hillside.
Regarding Lake Sonoma:  This property is stunning from a scenery standpoint but the state land is surounded by huge private ranches (the smallest ranch is 900 acres and the largest to the West is 25,000 acres).  Hogs are smart so the leave the public access areas early morning and only come back at night. Yes, you can catch some stragglers there once in a while but you will not see the hogs you will see at Hillside or Tejon.  Have fun no matter what you do.
Keep flinging those shafts!

I give another vote for Hillside Hog Havan. If spot and stalk is your game, lots of opportunity. Best free range hog hunting Ive ever had.

They do not let the rifle hunters hunt on the archery ranch they are seperate ranches altogether!!!!As for the fenced part your hunting skills WILL BE TESTED there. You must be thinking of Cedar Canyon Ranch!!!
