wanting to make arrows from picking a tree to cut to finish arrow. I did it before with ash tree but they spined around 90 to 100#. Is there any way to know how to figure the spine by looking at a tree. I dont want to waste a tree because of my ignorence and I really want to learn. I shoot a 55# bow an arrows spined at 60 to 65# fly true.

Why not buy a board at Lowes and let the tree live, that way you can select the grain and it will already be dried. I buy 5/16 dowels and build arrows, Lots of culling but cheap. Good luck

No way to tell that I know of.  Even shafts from the same board will spine differently.  You can adjbust the dia of the shaft to get the spine you need.
