Stone Points and Wood Shafts??

I need some help finding someone that makes stone points and fletched wood shafts. I want to start hunting with stone points and wood shafts but I've tried making them myself and just can't get the hang of it. Thanks in advance!

Oh yeah man, it's really addicting! I'm going to keep working on it though so eventually I'll get the hang of it but hopefully I can find find someone to buy them from right now.

how much are you wanting to spend?  a good quality hunting point can go for as much as $15-25.  then there is the cost of putting the arrow together.  you can pay $25 on up for a stone pointed hunting arrow using POC.  for cane, it can start around $35-45 per arrow.  i don't do much knapping myself, but i know some of the best knappers to be found so i have access to some great hunting points.  shoot me a pm if you're wanting some stone pointed hunting arrows.  here are some i made using foreshafted obsidian points and cane shafts.  the nocks are whitetail antler.  i made these for a hog hunt.  one brought home the bacon.  busted through a rib and the heart only knocking a small chip from the tip.

i would just google flint knappers in what ever state you are located in and get in touch with them.  I bought all i will ever need a few years ago for around $3 a piece.  A good knapper can knock out a flint arrow head with side notches in 5 minutes tops.  make sure you go for heads that are 7/8 to 15/16 wide and about 1 1/4 long.  obsidian is easy to make and VERY EASY TO CHIP OR BREAK.  They are for decoration only.  don't hunt with them, they will shatter really easy on bone.  get some good hard flint,  Kansas, OKlahoma or arkansas.  despite how sharp they are, they are also wider and don't penetrate as well as steel points.

Hey guys, I use a fellar that makes some smoking points.  He uses flint and obsidion.  He will make them to whatever grain you want and usually are within about 5 grains from the lightest to the heavist.  He charges about $8 when I buy them by the half dozen.  He is also a super guy to work with.

Super slam, You are pretty close to where we have Ojam every March in Stillwater. 5 days of great bow makeing, flintknapping, with lots of demo's and some of the best bowyers and knapper in the country.

There is a lot that goes into making a truly good primitive arrow. Getting the spine just right when shooting from a selfbow is crucial so as to get every bit of penetration an accuracy out of a primitive set up. it can be challenging to do with natural materials such as cane or dogwood shoots. It can be done however, and is worth the effort.
Obsidian does work, I have taken several deer with it and have had good luck with it, but prefer a little tougher material. Arrowhead design is more important than material. A good flintknapper will change the arrowhead desigh a little bit for different types of material.


Here is an obsidian point used a few years ago on a whitetail. A complete pass through with very little damage.

That is one of the best designed heads for penetration it is Cahokia style point that you show there.  The only thing that would make it better is to make it out of a tough flint such as Knife River, raw Flint Ridge Chalcedony, ect.
