Tried posting this in the shooters forum but it got locked why I do not know so I am going to try and post it here.

I have an old Gordon Plastics recurve bow from California. This is a wood recurve bow that is backed by fiberglass and pretty a typicle of early to late 60's vintage recurve bows. The bow is 62 inches from tip to tip. The only markings on the bow is a 54 which I assume is the poundage. My issue is with the brace height. I purchased a 62 AMO string for it that is 58 inches long. I am only getting a brace height with this string of 5.25 inches which does not seem correct. I have placed several twists in th string and now I have a 6.25 brace height.

Does any one know what the correct brace height for this recurve bow should be. I have other recurves and they are all from 7.25 tp 8.5 inches in brace height. Should I go with a shorter string?

thanks
Keep your shafts straight and your feathers dry and may you always shoot true.

Measure the bow from string groove to string groove, following the curves of the bow, not tip to tip.
I didnt miss, thats right where I was aiming

If you will read the posting guidelines for the Shooters Forum you will find out why it was locked.  Did you not read what Terry posted on your thread?

The folks here to a great job of trying to keep this site and the forums focused.  All you have to really do is pat attention.    :archer2:

58" – 64"  recurves 7" or 7.5" to about 8.25" – maybe 8.5". 66" – 70" recurves 8.5" - 9.5" or even 10"
Read that somewhere else - I'll email you a link

I thought a forum titled "Shooters forum" would be the correct place to post a question about brace height and bow info.  After all brace height has a a lot to do with shooting a recurve properly.  My Mistake.

Well sorry I just thought a forum titled

Hey Todd..I did the same thing you did. Shooter forum I would think relates to shooting a bow and the brace height would affect shooting a bow. I did the same thing..so I will probably get knocked for it too.Quess me and you are stupid..  :knothead:    :deadhorse:

I know what site you got the above info from. That place is basically a target archery site. With that said, I wouldn't take the above brace height measurements for 66"-70" recurves as gospel. For examples; the brace height for my 66", 42# recurve is 7.562" and the brace height for my 66", 37# recurve is 7.687".
