I am thinking about switching to aluminium arrows for my caribow 60# at 28in and based on the easton shaft selector chart they are saying i should use 2018 from with 100 grain points up to 150 grain points. I have a couple 2018's at home and have shot them with 125-175 grain tips and just cant seem to get them to fly right. So I was wondering if any of you shoot aluminiums with a bow similar to mine and what your shooting out of it. I would prefer to shoot about a 200 grain head so that I can get the weight of the arrow up a little closer to 10 grains per pound because if i remember correctly the arrow cut to 29in weighs only about 350 grains plain.

Thank you and have a wonderful day

My Widow at 59# takes 2216's with 100 gr heads, and that's an arrow 30.5" long.

When I back down in weight on other bows, I just use a heavier tip.

You might want to try a 2020 shaft as well.  I like the added weight/strength of these shafts.

Mine are 30.5 with 145gr out of 57 and 61 # dwyers.

I would look at 2020s,2117s and 2216s and possibly 2314s, 2315s.That alot of point weight.

The 2020s are a pretty heavy arrow and very tough. You may not need as much point weight on that one to get up to 600 grains.445 grains with, RPS inserts, nocks and fletchings cut to 29.Add a 150 grain head and your right at 600 grains.

They may be slightly week.Maybe not?Cut to 29 and drawn 28 in.You will be very close though.

2117 is 407 grains approximatly with inserts and fletchings.2216 is 411 gr.2314 is 390.

I like the 2020 if it works the most.

With 200 grians up front I think the 2315 is worth serious consideration.

With 100 to 150 up front I think all these other sizes are close.Hard to say which is perfect though without testing.

whether you bow is cut to center, past center or shy of center or factors to consider as well as string type and strand count.Bow efficiency and or energy imparted to the arrow comes into play as well. Some bows require a stiffer spine in the same poundage than other bows and some weaker.

I am guessing your bow is a recurve?.....2020s or 2117s should work....both fly well out of my 59# predator with B50...both around 29.5 long 160gr on the 2020s.... 210 on the 2117s...
Bowhunting is "KILL and EAT" not "Catch and Release".....Semper Fi!

I'd bet 2117's will fly well out of your set-up with 200+ grains up front. The stainless Muzzy Phantom(225) should work just fine with or without the bleeder blade.Good luck and "Keep'Um Sharp".

KumaSan

I'd bet on the 2216's at 30". The 2117's will probably bare shaft light.

Dave Lay

agreed on all the above, i have had good luck with 2216's and 2020's for bows in that weight range and your point weight

Do a search for Stu's calculator.  It is well worth the time to learn how to use it.  You can do a lot of what if's with different spines and materials.

I shoot a 54# at 28" drawn to right at 30" silvertip. 2117's 32" long with a 125grn head fly perfect! I'd say the 2117, 2020 or 2216's would be good! I shoot 2117's because they fly great thier durable and easy to find. JMHO!! Jason
