Dying Feathers

Well I build my own arrows and now I would like to learn how to make barred feathers. I have a whole bunch of full length pure white feathers on there way and would like to dye them to a orange barred feather. But where to start? Where to buy and how to apply?
Any help would be appreciated.

Just want to put stripes on it.

Try doing a search for the dying. I just asked about that myself a week or so ago. May still be on some page further back. Page three would be a good place to start looking.
  As far as barring a feather I've done it before with a sharpie marker. Time consuming but it worked. If you can't find the thread to feather dying. Then let me know and I'll pass on what I learned here. To much typing for my first cup of coffee.

I have used a dark Minwax wood stain with pretty good results. With a little experimentation you will figure it out. Do a search on here. Rit dye, leather dye or kool-aid and some vinegar all will work for your color. Good Luck.

Damm,I was just in Walmart but I'll look next time. There seems to be a lot of dyes out there but I just want to put orange stripes on a white turkey feathers.

Works great.....I've made hundreds using this techinque.  Fun, fast, easy, and they don't fade.  My daughter loves to dye them with me!

Thanks for posting this, but how do you all think they put the black on the end of the feathers?  That is a simple process, but they skipped the part about the tips being made black.  I guess you could always dip them in bleach if you were wanting a white tip.

use a black sharpie to add the barred effect. I have done this and it is a little time consuming but it doesn't fade.

waterbased leather dye and a narrow artist brush you can create your own style. No matter the outcome it will be your own.

Sharpie works great. Bleach will eat up feathers.

I use India Ink from Hobby Lobby and a small art brush.  I just hold the feather and paint on the India Ink for the barreds.  I have done this on whites and colored feathers.  Looks good and lasts.  Hope this helps.
