Read about Dr. Linus Pauling and his research on vitamin C. He won two Nobel prizes in his lifetime, took massive amounts of Vitamin C and lived and worked well into his 90's. IIRC his normal daily intake of Vitamin C was around 2000 Mgs.

If you're gonna be stupid, ya gotta be tough.
