Has anyone taken a "non-custom" bow and made it their hunting bow?

I have hunted with a Damon Howatt Hunter recurve that I won in a raffle. No problems shooting that bow well!

Just picked up a 1967 Bear Kodiak 58" 43# @28" from Jack Shanks, Had to refinish it and now that I have shot it I may hunt with it this year. Same year I started my journey in archery!!Also have had other Bears,Martins,Ben Pearsons.

I never owned a custom bow for the first 35 yrs. I bowhunted.  Even when I finally got one I shot my old Howatt Hunter 90% of the time.  Right now I'm shooting a Brackenbury Old Timer that I bought used.

I have 8 bows and only one of them would be considered a custom. With that said, this year I am going to hunt with a 1970 Bear Kodiak Hunter.

I shot a used Bear Magnum from 1964 to 1973 when it delammed and blew up on me.  Then I found a used Browning Explorer II and have used it ever since.  I am not sure what yer either were new, but at last  3 or 4 before I got them. I am now making self bows, and have hunted a few times with my own bows, but the Browning is stll sweet.

I've hunted and bowfished with old factory rigs of at least 20 yrs age. The more I shot, and the more bows I shot, I realized I like a certain type of rig above all else.

Unfortunately that bow is rather expensive.

Just because I prefer that bow, that doesn't mean I need that bow.

Deer don't care how much I spend, but eating venison taken by custom bows does taste a little sweeter (what I tell my factory bow hunting buds anyway :-)

My first trad bow and the bow I got my first three trad kills with was a Pearson Rogue!! I still have it and thought about selling it but I've decided to keep it...Production bows from back in the day are just as good as custom bows if you ask me!!
